Ray appointed to CSE board

Top professional Ray Abeywardena, who is the Chairman of Acuity Stockbrokers Ltd., has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).



He is the first employed professional from a stock broking background to be appointed to the CSE board in recent years.

He fills the vacancy arising from the resignation of Rajendra Theagarajah with effect from 1 May 2013.

Abeywardena is the MD/Group CEO of Acuity Partners (a joint venture investment banking firm equally owned by the DFCC Bank and HNB) since January 2009. He also serves on the Boards of Asian Alliance, Lanka Ventures, Acuity Securities and Guardian Acuity Asset Management.

Ray accounts for over 25 years of work experience in capital markets in Sri Lanka. He holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wales and he also a post graduate diploma holder in marketing (CIM-UK). He embarked his career path in the field of stock broking (1986-2008). Subsequently in 2009, he moved into investment banking.

Abeywardena also worked as the Managing Director of DFCC Stockbrokers. During his tenure  the firm was ranked as the number one stock broker in Sri Lanka in 2008, having established a strong and loyal client base both locally and internationally and has been successful in executing some of the largest trades that took place on the Colombo Stock Exchange.



With the latest appointment the Board of Directors of the CSE comprises of Krishan Balendra (Chairman), Vajira Kulatilaka, Dr. Saman Kelegama, M.R. Prelis, Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya, Hiran de Alwis, Jeewa Niriella and Ray Abeywardena.

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) operates the only share market in Sri Lanka and is responsible for providing a transparent and regulated environment where companies and investors can come together. The CSE is a company that is limited by guarantee established under the laws of Sri Lanka. The CSE is licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and is a mutual exchange consisting of 15 members and 14 trading members. All members and trading members are licensed by the SEC to operate as stockbrokers.
