UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, whose party secured the largest number of seats in Monday’s Parliamentary election, will take oaths as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka today.
Wickremesinghe will be sworn in by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat at 10.00 a.m.
His appointment marks the fourth time Wickremesinghe will hold the title during his political career.
Wickremesinghe first became Prime Minister following the May 1993 assassination of President Ranasinghe Premadasa.
He also took over as Prime Minister in 2001, after his party won parliamentary elections in December that year.
President Maithripala Sirisena then swore Wickremesinghe in as his prime minister soon after he took the Presidential oath at Independence Square on 9 January this year, fulfilling an election pledge to do so.
