The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday announced that it had commenced its battle to topple the UPFA Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“We have given repeated warnings to the government and urged relief for the people but we will not issue warnings any longer. We will topple the government as soon as possible,” UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told a May Day meeting at the UNP Headquarters, Siri Kotha yesterday.
Wickremesinghe appealed to all sections of society, including the clergy and civil society to take to the streets against the policies of the incumbent Government.
