The Parliamentary Select Committee on constitutional reform focused on devolution convened for the first time at the Parliamentary Complex yesterday without a single legislator from the Opposition parties present. The committee, which is chaired by Leader of the House Nimal Siripala De Silva, currently comprises only 19 Government Parliamentarians after the TNA, the UNP and the JVP declined to participate or name their representatives so far. The committee met for one hour yesterday, between 3-4 p.m. It is scheduled to reconvene on 26 July. The committee will likely seek public opinion on the subject under consultation, the Daily FT learns. (DB)
