President Maithripala Sirisena received the World Health Organization’s Award for Excellence in Public Health 2016, at a function held at the President’s House in Colombo last evening.
This annual award has been established to recognise outstanding leadership and exceptional individual achievement in public health.
WHO Regional Director Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh said that the award was being presented to President Sirisena for his exceptional contribution to strengthening the health services of Sri Lanka particularly with regard to his efforts toward tobacco control, drug regulation, migrant health and kidney disease treatment and prevention.
