President Maithripala Sirisena tours the exhibition
President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday declared open the ‘Min Visithuru 2016’ exhibition of ornamental fish, aquatic plants and accessories, organised by the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka.
The exhibition, organised with the objective of increasing the export demand for ornamental fish and ornamental aquatic plants produced in Sri Lanka, is being held from 5 to 7 August at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The other main objectives of organising this exhibition are to understand the challenges for the local ornamental fish industry, upliftment of the industry to the international level and to gain foreign attraction for the industry.
The exhibition consists of 100 stalls and along with the exhibition several programmes, including an awareness programme for the people who are interested in the ornamental fish industry, have been planned as well.
After declaring open the exhibition, President Sirisena made an inspection tour of the exhibition and presented awards for the people who engaged in the ornamental fish industry. He was also presented with a special memento by the organisers.
Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera and Lakshman Kiriella, State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi, National Aquaculture Development Authority Chairman Upali Mohotti, Aquaculture Development Authority Director-General Nimal Chandrarathna and many others participated in this event.
