The Government has taken measures to improve the public procurement system in order to enhance efficiency and reduce costs while strengthening fair competition.
A discussion on the strengthening of the Government procurement process was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, with the participation of the members of the Procurement Committee, at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday.
Attention was drawn to the necessity of a new process to carry out the public sector procurement process in an efficient manner as well as to issues relating to the Procurement Committee.
There were detailed discussions regarding the functioning of the Procurement Committee and the irregularities that had occurred at the committee under the new Government and the past regime.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Chairman of the Ministry Procurement Committee B.N.I.F.A. Wickramasuriya and senior officials participated in the meeting.
