Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be questioned by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources, and Privileges (PRECIFAC) today.
“He will be questioned in the morning by a team of PRECIFACPolice investigators,” sources told the Daily FT.
Rajapaksa will be questioned over a complaint received by the Commission on an alleged incident during the presidential election2015.
A team of Police investigators will be sent to the ex-President’s residence at Mirihana to get a statement regarding the allegation, the sources said.
The PRECIFAC, appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena, is investigating and inquiring into serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power and State resources and privileges that occurred during the Rajapaksa regime.
With powers to summon any person despite their political affiliation, the PRECIFAC holds its public hearings before its commissioners – High Court Judges PadmanSurasena, AmendraSeneviratne, VikumKaluarachchi and Gihan Kulatunga and former Auditor General B.A. Premathilake.
Sources said that there were more VIPs including former ministers, former deputy ministers and ministry secretaries in the list of those scheduled to be questioned on complaints of serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power and State resources and privileges during the last regime.
