The Sri Lanka Electricity Board (SLEB) will introduce a prepaid electricity connection system from this year, says the Minister of Power and Energy Champika Ranawaka.
The pre-paid electricity connections will be similar to pre-paid telephone connections and power will be automatically cut off once the paid limit is exceeded.
The Minister says that the user can know how much electricity has been used under the metering system, which comes with the pre-paid system.
The aim of the pre-paid system is to help the consumers to save energy through controlled usage.
