Govt. extends Budget salary increases to employees of public corporations, statutory boards and foreign funded
projects; 5% special allowance and Rs.600 CoL allowance
implemented from 1 Jan.
The New Year will bring good news to employees of public corporations, statutory boards and foreign funded projects as the government has decided to expand salary and allowance allocations stipulated in the Budget 2011 to include them as well.This Cabinet decision was made on Wednesday and was announced at yesterday’s news briefing by Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. The Budget proposed a 5% special allowance of the monthly salary to all employees and a provision of Rs.600 cost of living allowance for non-staff grade employees. The cost of living allowance of Rs.600 for staff-grade officers will be effective from July 2011. A cost of living allowance of Rs.300 to pensioners has also been proposed in the Budget.
“The Cabinet approved a proposal made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister to extend the salary increases stipulated in the Budget to workers in public corporations, statutory boards and foreign funded projects. A circular to this effect will be released and the proposals will be implemented from 1 January onwards,” Rambukwella said. (UJ)
