New State Minister of Defense assumes duties

Newly appointed State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene officially assumed duties yesterday at the Defense Ministry. In keeping with tradition, Minister Wijewardene officially assumed office at the auspicious time in the presence of family and officials of the ministry, ministry officials said.

The Defence Ministry Secretary B.M.U.D. Basnayake, Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya, the chiefs of the tri-forces, police, Civil Defence Force and the Coast Guard were also present.
