Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in a communiqué yesterday, said that false allegations had been made against him with regard to the $ 238 million investment in the Steel Corporation and Dubai Marriott Hotel.
The former President stated that the Financial Crimes Investigation Division had submitted a ‘B’ Report to the Kaduwela Magistrate Court concerning the matter.
The communiqué stated that the police had named the former President as the owner of the $ 238 million property of the Dubai Marriott Hotel and Steel Corporation, instead of Nandana Lokuvithana – who is posing as the proprietor.
According to the ‘B’ Report submitted by the Police’s FCID, the former President further stated that the investigations were conducted against him based on an anonymous complaint.
The former President also stated that the FCID’s action on an anonymous complaint was clear evidence of false allegations being made against political opponents, with the intention of harassing them.
He also stated that there was a case filed against the FCID at the Supreme Court as well.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa further stated in his communiqué that the ‘B’ Report was trying to prove that there was a case against him in connection with concealed wealth.
He said such allegations would serve as propaganda for political opponents as an election was on the cards.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa reiterated that he did not own the Steel Corporation or the Dubai Marriott Hotel and that they belonged to their respective owners, who have claimed their proprietorship.
