A group of parliamentarians have been appointed at district level to monitor institutions coming under the purview of the Ministry of Finance.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that steps to appoint monitoring MPs were taken in order to enhance functions of these institutions and improve their efficiency. The letters of appointment with regard to the new positions were handed over to the respective parliamentarians at the Parliament Complex this week.
The newly-appointed MPs will neither be paid any special payment nor other facility for their services rendered in this regard as they have volunteered to do the task. Karunanayake said that this step was taken to continue the services of Government institutions systematically by furthering their efficiency under the Unity Government and the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
