An invoice of Mooloya BOP1 was sold at an all time Colombo tea auction record price of Rs. 515 per kilogram at last week’s sale.

The teas were purchased by Imperial Teas and were sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers.

The Mooloya factory is located east of Nuwara Eliya on the Uda Pussellawa mountain range and the colder temperatures help in the manufacture of teas with a nice rosy character coupled with bright infusions. The tea sold this week at this record price had a well twisted appearance and bright liquors and infusions. This is the second grade for which this factory has obtained an all time record price within a space of one month and this is a very rare feat.

This factory is managed by Pussellawa Plantations who has invested heavily in agricultural inputs, thus ensuring a good quality standard of green leaf for manufacture, which is a pre-requisite for good manufacture. The factory too is known to follow good manufacturing standards at every stage in the process of manufacture and teas from this estate are now widely supported by buyers for the discerning European markets as well as niche markets in Japan.
