Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel said its 4G-LTE service went live in the cities of Colombo, Hambantota, Matara, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy and Jaffna yesterday.
The trial of Mobitel’s 4G-LTE network in May 2011 exhibited downlink speeds exceeding 96 Mbps, which was also incidentally the first time in the South Asian Region.
The latest in wireless network technology, a 4G-LTE network means customers are able to access the internet at much faster speeds than those experienced with 3G. To enjoy 4G-LTE speeds, customers must use supporting mobile phones, dongles or routers.
With these superior speeds, customers can experience faster download speeds, smooth HD video streaming, superior online gaming and much more.
Enterprises and SMEs will also benefit from Mobitel’s 4G-LTE network due to its reliability and higher average speeds experienced while catering to many customers. Using supported 4G-LTE WiFi routers, corporate customers can cater to their business data needs more cost effectively.
Mobitel’s mobile 4G-LTE services are backed by the power of its parent company SLT’s extensive fibre network. Mobitel, renowned for its pioneering efforts in the mobile technology industry, adds this latest landmark launch to its list of achievements. The launch of this network is part of Mobitel’s ongoing efforts to expand on coverage and quality, driving investment for the country, encouraging innovation – delivering the most advanced mobile internet experience to its customers.
