The Government last week decided to award contracts to Malaysian and Singaporean firms to construct and operate two star-class hotels at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
The two parties were Malaysia’s ECM Libra Financial Group Berhad and Singapore’s TP Real Estate Holdings Ltd. The contract is to build and operate start-class hotels of a minimum of 100 rooms on a 40-year lease on land owned by Airport and Aviation Services Ltd.
The move is in view of the rapid growth of passengers who pass through BIA. The proposal from Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva to call for bids was first approved by the Cabinet in May last year.
