President Maithripala Sirisena left for the Vatican yesterday on a two day official tour on an invitation by the Holy See.
The President is scheduled to have an audience with the Pope at the Vatican on Monday.
This is the second time the President will meet Pope Francis after assuming presidency on January 8. The President met with the Pope when he visited Sri Lanka on 13 January.
During that meeting a friendly and cordial relationship was built between the President and Pope Francis and the Pope has commented that he was pleased with the simple lifestyle of President Sirisena and those qualities are exemplary to the world leaders of today.
The President is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
