Dr. Lalith P. Chandradasa, a doctor of medicine and a brother-in-law of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the pioneering development finance institution DFCC Bank.
The appointment as an Independent Director had been approved by the DFCC Bank Board following the go ahead by the Director of Bank Supervision, Central Bank.
A former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, NARA and Ceylon Fisheries Harbours Corporation and a Board Member of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Chandradasa was also a former General Secretary to the GMOA and a Medical Officer at the Department of Health Services.
Presently he is the Chairman of PJ Pharma Care (Ceylon) Ltd., MED 1 Pvt Ltd., and Employees Holdings Ltd., and also serves as a Director Community Health and GFATM Projects, Lanka Jathika Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya.
Dr. Chandradasa has a MBBS Degree from the University of Colombo and has completed the Module on Refugee Medicine and Medicine in Emergencies of the Masters Programme in International Health at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and International Course on Organising Emergency Medical Services at the International Institute of Leadership, Israel.
DFCC Bank Board’s nomination committee is headed by R.B. Thambiyah and comprises Chairman Rajan Brito and C.R. Jansz.
Major shareholders of DFCC Bank are Bank of Ceylon (14.3%), Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (13%), HNB (12%), M.A. Yaseen (8.6%), Distilleries (6.4%), Seafeld International (5.76%) and EPF (4.8%)
Following the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of DFCC Bank comprises Rajan Brito (Chairman), Nihal Fonseka (CEO/Ex-Officio Director), S.N.P. Palihena, A.S. Abeyewardene (Independent Non Executive Director), T.K. Bandaranayake, Gomin Dayasiri, Royle Jansz, Ravi Thambiayah, H.M.N.S. Gunawardana (Government Director), S.R. Thambiayah (Alternate to R.B. Thambiayah) and L.P. Chandradasa.
