Today marks the second year since the re-election of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for a fresh term.
Official sources said that the two years of achievements include a high 8% growth, positioning Sri Lanka as among the top five in the league of emerging economies with a major rebound in agriculture, industry and service sectors, boom in socio-economic infrastructure and other development programs countrywide, reduction in poverty and unemployment.
However the Opposition claimed that the country had regressed during the past two years with no credible reconciliation, bad governance, worsening law and order, undermining human and media rights as well as a weakening economy.
