Joint Opposition welcomes appointment of new CB Chief

Joint Opposition Leader Dinesh Gunawardena welcomed the appointment of Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy as the new Governor of the Central Bank.

MP Gunawardena said he believed the new governor would perform his duties to enhance the credibility of the Central Bank.

“We welcome the appointment of a new CB Governor, an experienced professional & respected in his field. Hope he brings credibility to CBSL & CBG,” Gunawardena said in a Twitter message. The Joint Opposition was vehemently opposed to the reappointment of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who was accused of malpractice in the issuance of Treasury Bonds during his tenure.
