Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) President and CEO Hiroshi Watanabe will be in Sri Lanka today on an official two-day visit.
Japan is a big development partner of Sri Lanka and a substantial financing has come via JBIC.
Watanabe is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa in addition to meeting several others.
JBIC performs its role and functions to advance Japan’s external economic policy. Its mission is to contribute to the sound development of Japan and international economy and society by conducting financial operation in several fields.
They include promoting the overseas development and securement of resources which are important for Japan; maintaining and improving the international competitiveness of Japanese industries; promoting the overseas business having the purpose of preserving the global environment, such as preventing global warming; and preventing disruptions to international financial order or taking appropriate measures with respect to damages caused by such disruption.
JBIC also provides support for the development of Japan and international economy to meet their increasingly diverse financing needs through its variety of financial products and other services.
As at March 2013 JBIC had Japanese Yen 8 trillion in outstanding loans and equity participation.
