Japan’s PM congratulates Maithri, extends support

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has extended his congratulations to newly-elected President Maithripala Sirisena. “I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Your Excellency on your assumption of the office of the new President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka,” Abe said. “I look forward to working closely with you in order to further develop our bilateral relations based on the long-time friendship, and to contribute together toward the prosperity of the entire region Japan, as a nation longing for peace, will continue to fully support Sri Lanka’s efforts toward the realisation of national reconciliation,” the Japanese Premier added.
