The 93rd Annual General Meeting of the Colombo Rubber Traders Association will be held on 13 July 2012 at the Samudra Ball Room, Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.
The meeting will be attended by planters, traders, manufacturers and exporters of rubber. The CRTA is the focal point for the rubber industry in Sri Lanka.
The Chief Guest at the event will be Jayarathna Herath, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, and the guest speaker will be Sheela Thomas, who is Chairperson of the Rubber Board of India.
Thomas has previously served the State Government as Social Welfare Director, Kottayam District Collector, State Civil Supplies Corporation Managing Director, Industries Director, Census Operations Director, Agriculture Special Secretary, Transport Secretary, NoRKA Secretary and Information and Public Relations Department Secretary.
She was appointed Rubber Board Chairperson while serving as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
This is the first time an international speaker of this calibre is scheduled to address the AGM of the CRTA. Thomas will enlighten the audience on her thoughts on the future of the rubber industry and how SAFTA will impact the rubber industry.
At present India is one of the biggest consumers of rubber in the world and the audience will benefit greatly from Thomas’ speech.
