ICTA should focus more on ‘SMART Sri Lanka’: Secretary to President

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, during a recent visit to the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) urged it for more focus on ‘SMART Sri Lanka’, the Government’s next ICT strategy phase. Amidst his accolades to ICTA‘s enormous eight-year contribution to the country’s ICT-led development, Weeratunga emphasised the need and importance of greater focus on ‘SMART Sri Lanka’. “President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s vision is a ‘SMART Sri Lanka’ and ICTA will be the key driving force of the country’s next ICT development initiative,” the President’s Secretary added. Giving a shot in the arm to the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, Secretary Weeratunga recommended the apex ICT body to keep up its performance at optimum level. During the visit the Presidential Secretary lauded the ICTA for the great strides it had reached in e-Sri Lanka project and pledged full support for the next phase, ‘SMART Sri Lanka’. Delving into salient areas of activities of ICTA, the Presidential Secretary had avid interactive sessions with the staff with responsibilities for different projects at ICTA headed by CEO Reshan Dewapura. These sessions included apprising the Presidential Secretary of the work in progress in each project with emphasis on portrayal of problems faced.
