Hayleys Free Zone to take Sri Lanka’s logistics industry to the next level

  • Commences commercial operations at Katunayake
  Hayleys Free Zone opened its doors for business recently, with a ceremonial opening held at its new facility located within Zone 1 of the Katunayake Export Processing Zone. The first phase, once fully-developed, will offer a sprawling 170,000 sq. ft. warehouse for foreign and local companies to carry out entrepot trade, where merchandise can be imported and re-exported tax free. The fully-owned subsidiary of Hayleys Advantis Ltd., was officially declared open by Hayleys Group Chairman Mohan Pandithage, amongst a gathering of distinguished invitees and key stakeholders. The second phase of the project will see the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art facility within the Katunayake Export Processing Zone, which will offer an additional 200,000 sq. ft. of warehousing space by the first quarter of 2015. Both complexes will consist of modern, state-of-the-art equipment complemented by optimal safety and security features. In addition to space and duty concessions, customers will have access to all the benefits available at a free zone including value addition where Hayleys Advantis will leverage on its decade long 3PL expertise. Through Hayleys Free Zone, clients will have convenient access to air and sea ports taking maximum advantage of Sri Lanka’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean. “The company aims to take Sri Lanka to the next level of logistics services through Hayleys Free Zone, offering absolute convenience to all our clients through our free zone operations,” said Hayleys Free Zone Director Amal Rodrigo. Speaking at the event, he added: “All credit should go to the Government for implementing this plan and enabling the setup of free zones to promote international trade.” Rodrigo also thanked all the clients who have partnered with Hayleys Free Zone and stated: “We are now prepared to take our established Third Party Logistics (3PL) leadership to the next level by offering free zone services to a number of global clients covering a vast number of commodities.” As the Transportation and Logistics arm of diversified blue-chip conglomerate Hayleys Group, Hayleys Advantis draws from its strengths and wide partner network to develop and offer innovative customised solutions to customers both locally and internationally.
