Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva yesterday asserted that he would battle the upcoming Parliament election from public votes instead of being nominated for the National List, in order to generate maximum service to the people.
Addressing the gathering at the opening of his new office in Ethul Kotte, the Deputy Minister said that as a Parliamentarian who was selected via the National List, he had been able to serve the people of Colombo District only in a limited capacity. However, if he was elected to Parliament through the public vote, he would be able to serve the people more efficiently.
“I have gained second place in www.manthri.lk rankings out of 29 Parliamentarians for my service to the country as a Parliament member selected from the National List. Nobody has yet labelled me as a robber or cheater, because I fight for the country,” he added.
He further said that as Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Development in the interim Government, he used his economic knowledge to support the Party Leader to develop economic policies, data handling and data interpretation under the subject.
“I have discussed economic policy reforms with several intellectuals who can improve the country’s speed of development in the coming five years. We look forward to an economic revolution after the new government is elected,” he said.
However, he said that he would continue his service to the people in a high capacity, after being appointed to Parliament via the support of the people of Kotte in the upcoming election.
