Following a decision made at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management, the Government has decided to grant a fertiliser subsidy to tea, coconut and rubber smallholders who own a cultivated land in extent of one hectare or less, in proportion to the extent of land cultivated annually.
Accordingly, a financial subsidy of Rs. 15,000 for the tea sector, Rs. 9,000 for the coconut sector and Rs. 5,000 for the rubber sector will be granted by the Government.
At the Cabinet briefing yesterday, Cabinet Co-Spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said Cabinet had approved the proposal made by Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayaketo increase the current extent of land from one hectare to two hectares with the view of benefitting more cultivators under the above subsidy scheme.
