FutureGov SAARC Summit 2013 begins today

The two-day (25-26 June 2013) FutureGov SAARC Summit 2013 begins at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo at 9 a.m. today.  While the conference on both day one (25) and day two (26) is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., it is due to end on day one at 6 p.m. and on day two at 1:25 p.m. On both days in the early part of the agenda there will be a VIP address/VIP panel discussion. Today Chief Guest Sri Lanka’s Public Management Reforms Minister Naveen Dissanayake is scheduled to address the conference at 9:30 a.m. A VIP discussion between ruling party MP Thilanga Sumathipala and Main Opposition Party MP Eran Wickramaratne is scheduled to be a special feature at the conference at 9:05 a.m. tomorrow. On this occasion the two MPs are scheduled to air and share their views on ‘e-Government: The energiser for public sector service excellence’. While there will be six panel discussions of 40 minutes each in the two-day conference, the summit will feature four panel discussions today and two tomorrow. ‘The Great Debate’ with 30 minutes assigned for it is scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m. and today is bound to be a great special session of day one. Several 15-minute local and keynote addresses interspersed with several five-minute live audience responses which are on the cards are sure to whet the interest of the participants. A special event scheduled for day one though taking only five minutes will be the launch of the new Government web portal ‘The Smart Gateway to Government of Sri Lanka,’ website address www.gov.lk.
