Fisticuffs in P’ment lift!

Deputy Minister and UNP Gampaha District MP Ranjan Ramanayake and Joint Opposition Group’s Kandy District MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage yesterday assaulted each other near the MPs lift on the second floor of the Parliament building.

They also abused each other in foul language, eyewitnesses said.

MP Ramanayaka had been waiting to get into the lift and was engaged in conversation with JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake when MP Aluthgamage had alighted from the lift.

The two had got into an argument after MP Ramanayaka made allegations against the UPFA MP over the abuse of a state vehicle when he was a minister.

MPs Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Kumara Welgama and Ranjith Zoysa who were present had to intervene to pull them part.
