Crowd-sourced taxi service uber from today is increasing its fares for longer distance rides while claiming it remains affordable.
uber described the increase as “marginal”. It said that after 10 km, uberGO services would charge Rs. 42 per km, while uberX would charge Rs. 62 per km, for every additional kilometre.
There will be no change in regular fares up to 10 km, with fares eemaining at Rs. 30 per km on uberGO and Rs. 50 per km on uberX.
To justify the service’s continuing affordability; uber said that other app operators would charge Rs. 766 for a trip from World Trade Centre to Nugegoda while other taxi operators would charge Rs. 840. Comparatively, uberGO would charge Rs. 522.
