Renowned economist Dr. Razeen Sally, who is the Director of the European Centre for International Political Economy and Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, will be a key draw at the 14 June forum on the future of Sri Lanka’s economic cooperation with China and India organised by the Daily FT and Colombo University MBA Alumni Association in partnership with HSBC.
Dr. Sally, who is also the Chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies, will be a key panellist at the 14 June forum’s morning session focusing on the future of Sri Lanka-China economic relations. The full day forum will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera at 9.00 a.m. whilst State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne will be the Guest of Honour. China’s Ambassador Yi Xianliang will also speak. In the post-lunch session which will focus on the future of Indo-Lanka economic relations, Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake will be the Chief Guest.
The forum will bring together a host of international, regional and local experts as well as private sector leaders highlighting both opportunities and challenges in enhancing economic relations with China and India, two of Sri Lanka’s most prominent and active development partners.
Strategic partner HSBC is flying down three specialists exclusively for the forum. They are Sunil Hiranandani, Director, Regional Head of Belt and Road Initiative for Commercial Banking; Rajat Verma - Managing Director and Head of Commercial Banking, HSBC India and Vina Cheung - Global Head of RMB Internationalisation, HSBC Global Liquidity and Cash Management while HSBC Sri Lanka CEO Mark Prothero will also speak.
Dr. Sally will figure in a panel that includes Nihal Rodrigo - former SL Ambassador to China; Prabhash Subasinghe - MD, Global Rubber Industries Ltd. and Ruwan Waidyaratne - Managing Director, Hayleys Advantis in addition to Hiranandani and Prothero. Prior to the panel, IPS Research Fellow Dr. Janaka Wijeyasiri and HSBC›s Vina Cheung will also share insights on China.
In the afternoon, at the Indo-Lanka session, apart from presentations by Foreign Minister Karunanayake and India›s Deputy High Commissioner Arindam Bagchi, there will be insights from HSBC›s Verma, Shea Wickramasingha - Group Managing Director, Munchee and Hasitha Premaratne - CFO, Brandix Lanka Ltd. while the panel will include all three along with Ceylon Chamber Chief Economist Anushka Wijesinha with FT columnist and former Central Bank Deputy Governor W.A. Wijewardena serving as the moderator.
