Dilmah Tea Tuesday opened is first tea bar in the Philippines at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu in the Cebu Island.
Located in the hotel’s lobby, the Dilmah t-Bar will showcase 21 single-origin teas grown from low, mid and high altitudes in Sri Lanka, China, Japan and South Africa.
Nishan Silva, the hotel’s general manager, said the opening of Dilmah t-Bar is a welcome addition to the Radisson’s growing food and beverage offerings to the Cebuano market.
“By introducing tea to the market, we will be able to raise awareness especially that teas have unmatched health benefits,” he said.
“The Philippines is traditionally a coffee market but we are making this bold move because we believe that tea is the future, and that we are already seeing a gradual shift to this kind of beverage,” he added.
This optimism was reinforced by Dilhan Fernando, son of Dilmah Tea founder Merrill Fernando.
“There are already coffee-drinking nations that are slowly shifting to tea, because of the science behind it, that tea is good for everything,” he said.
In the Philippines, Fernando noted that the market has already expressed openness in learning more about tea.
Currently, there are Dilmah t-Lounges, t-Houses and t-Bars in operation in several destinations like Poland, Belarus, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, India and the Philippines, which offer cocktails, mocktails, hot teas, shakes, as well as tea-inspired snacks and desserts.
Seeing the potential growth of the tea market in the country, Fernando said the family is interested in opening another t-Bar in Manila.
Dilmah is the only vertically integrated tea company with its own tea gardens, printing and packaging facilities, tea packing and investments in every segment of the industry.
Dilmah Teas are currently sold in over 90 countries.
