The President of the Republic of Senegal Macky Sall has appointed Dhammika Perera as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal in Sri Lanka, recently. The appointment has been approved by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Renowned for his business acumen, Perera has commercial interests in a wide range of sectors including banking and financial services, power and energy, leisure, manufacturing and diversified holdings.
Entities under his purview provide employment to approximately 50,000 individuals, contribute 5% of Sri Lanka’s tax revenues, and account for 3% of the nation’s export turnover. His renewable energy portfolio contributes close to 50 MW to the nation’s power grid.
At present he serves as Chairman of Sampath Bank Plc, Vallibel One Plc, Vallibel Finance Plc, Vallibel Power Erathna Plc, The Fortress Resorts Plc, Delmege Ltd., and Greener Water Ltd. He is Deputy Chairman of Hayleys Plc, Royal Ceramics Lanka Plc, and LB Finance Plc. He is also on the boards of several other public and privately-held companies.
In addition, Perera lends his expertise to national policy development. He is Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, and serves on the Boards of the Strategic Enterprise Management Agency and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka from April 2007 to May 2010.
It is envisaged that as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal, Perera will assist Sri Lanka and Senegal develop a variety of links in pursuant of mutually-beneficial interests.
