The De Lanerolle Brothers ‘Tea Taster’, Anil Fernando – a former planter counting over 30 years of experience, who was aware that Prince Philip planted a tea bush on Pedro Estate on 17 April 1954, made a special blend and supplied it through one of The De Lanerolle Brothers associate Companies in London who in turn supplied it to the Royal Caterer who used this exclusive tea to commemorate the ‘Diamond Jubilee’ of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
This exclusive tea was served at the Royal Lunch on Tuesday 5 June at Westminster Hall with the Queen and other foreign and local dignitaries including President Mahinda Rajapaksa in attendance. The caddy which contained the tea and was marked (one) was officially handed over to Prince Philip on an earlier occasion.
The De Lanerolle Brothers who are an internationally acclaimed singing duo own and run a family tea enterprise that concentrates on supplying high end exclusive teas to niche markets as well as facilitating a production plant with Rohan de Lanerolle (Snr.) at its helm that produces 17 to 20 million tea bags a month equipped with Constanta string and tag/envelope machines.
