Colombo hosts World construction Symposium from 28 June to 1 July

The prestigious world construction Symposium of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) will have Sri Lanka as its next venue for the 2012 deliberations.

The world Construction Symposium 2012 will be held in Colombo from 28th June to 01st July 2012 at the cinnamon Grand Hotel. This year’s symposium is organized by the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) in collaboration with the department of Building Economics of the University of Moratuwa.

The Singapore Institute of Building Limited (SIBL) is the International strategic partner of the Symposium.

The theme of this year’s symposium , “ Global challengers in the construction Industry” has been aptly chosen as Sri Lanka, having come out of a civil war , is poised to further develop its infrastructure , in having understood the need to position ourselves in the global market ,we questioned ourselves ,as to how we should meet the inevitable challengers. The participation of the symposium, from around the world will look forward to identifying challengers and understanding how to face them, unraveling the answers “Said Archt. The symposium will be attended by over 100 International delegates and over 200 delegates from Sri Lanka. Delegates will be comprised of practicing professionals, Consultants, Contractors, construction entrepreneurs, Academics and students in construction. The three day symposium will accommodate over 80 expert presentations and academic papers under thirteen different sub themes. The technical committee Comprised of technical academics from the department of Building Economics of the University of Moratuwa is currently going through the large number of full papers and abstracts received from experts from a number of countries. Foreign delegations are expected from a number of countries including, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Nigeria, Hong Kong, New Zealand, India, Iran, Netherlands, and United Kingdom.

The symposium will take place as a concurrent event of the Construction Expo 2-12 which will be held at the BMICH during the same period and the participating delegates will also get the opportunity to visit the Expo and explore business opportunities and partnerships in Sri Lanka
