The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) yesterday in a statement extended its warmest congratulations to the United National Front for Good Governance, the coalition led by the United National Party, for its decisive victory at the just-concluded Parliamentary general elections.
The CCC said that it believes that being elected to govern the nation, the most critical responsibility of the new Government is to work together with all the concerned stakeholders and develop prudent strategies and plans to overcome the critical challenges that the nation is faced with.
As the CCC had been reiterating in the past, the country is faced with many a challenges; such as ensuring harmony and national integration, strengthening democratic institutions and rule of law and governance and adopting inclusive development strategies.
In this background, the CCC said that it would like to reassure its unstinted commitment and wholehearted support to work and engage productively with the newly-elected Government in transforming Sri Lanka to a prosperous nation.
Commending the way that the election was conducted the statement said; “We believe that the elections were conducted in a free and fair manner, allowing the people to peacefully exercise their franchise,” the chamber said.
It also extended their gratitude to the Commissioner of Elections, the Police Chief and the officials of the respective institutions for creating this environment.
“Equally, we also wish to extend our appreciation to the President and the political party leaders, who extended their support towards this initiative,” the CCC statement said.
“We sincerely hope that the winners as well as losers will accept the final outcome of this election, in a peaceful manner, without disturbing the normalcy and day-to-day life of the people, demonstrating our respect towards democratic ideals,” it added.
