The members of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (COI), looking into irregularities in respect to the issuance of Treasury bonds, will visit the Central Bank today and witness the auction process as part of its investigation.
The Secretary to the Commission notified the Governor of the Central Bank that the three members of the COI, accompanied by representatives of the Attorney General’ s Department assisting them, would visit the Central Bank to ascertain the procedure adopted in bond auctions as well as examine documents relating to the bond issuances under examination .
The COI is headed by Justice K.T. Chitrasiri, Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Prasanna Jayawardana, Judge of the Supreme Court and Kandasamy Velupillai, Retired Deputy Auditor General. The Secretary to the commission is Sumathipala Udugamasuriya.
The commission has been mandated to investigate and inquire into and report on the issuance of Treasury bonds during the period from 1 February 2015 to 31 March 2016.
