The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in a statement yesterday said it noted with grave concern the attack on the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) by an unidentified group on Sunday morning.

“The CCC condemns this attack in the strongest possible terms,” the CCC said.

This attack comes at a time when the JSC had issued a statement alleging attempts to interfere with the independent functioning of the Judiciary. Whilst noting that the Government has directed the Police to quickly initiate an investigation into this crime, it is crucial that those responsible are brought to justice speedily. Failure to do so will harm the credibility of the Government and the country’s law enforcement agencies.
