Budget 2011: Why, how and what impact?

Key insights at this afternoon’s ground breaking Daily FT Budget seminar

The rationale for the Budget 2011 and its impact on the country and private sector will come into limelight at this afternoon’s ground breaking seminar ogranised by the Daily FT in partnership with the Colombo University MBA Alumni Association.

The seminar which has drawn tremendous interest will start at 2.30 p.m. at the Ceylon Continental Colombo with limited walk in registrations allowed from 12 noon onwards due to popular demand.



The ground breaking initiative as part of its constant value addition, the Daily FT and its co-host have invited six experts for the seminar to assist the business community to understand the salient features of Budget 2011 as well as how it would impact the private sector in particular and the post-war economy in general.

The public seminar, the first to be held under a private sector initiative post Budget 2011 will feature Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera as the keynote speaker.



Additionally a host of experts will share their respective observations and insights as well. The impressive line-up of speakers includes Brandix Lanka CEO Ashroff Omar providing a private sector perspective, Colombo University Senior Lecturer Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne will deal with macro-economic and policy implications of the Budget 2011.

Gajma and Company Partner N.R. Gajendran, Ernst & Young Partner and Head of the Tax Department Lakmali Nanayakkara along with Tax Advisor to Finance Ministry and Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue Department Dammika Gunatilake will focus on tax proposals. Finance Ministry Director-General Fiscal Policy S.R. Attygalle and Director General Trade, Tariff and Investment Policies Dr. Neville Gunawardena will be present as well to clarify issues.

The seminar includes a Q&A session following the presentations by experts whilst it will also have further value additions for participants.
