The Bribery and Corruption Commission will not be dissolved, the President’s office said in a statement yesterday.
The President’s office said that there were media reports stating that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption would be dissolved this week.
However, the President’s office noted that the establishment of the commission, appointments and removal of its members should be done in accordance with the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Accordingly, there is no power to dissolve the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
However, Commissioners for all commissions will be appointed after the establishment of the Constitutional Council. (Colombo Gazette)
