SriLankan Airlines said yesterday that it would not operate its scheduled air taxi flights to Nuwara Eliya until further notice.
The airline has decided to halt its domestic air services to the popular hill destination, due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions.
“Giving priority to passenger safety, the airline will not operate its daily scheduled flights to Nuwara Eliya, since landing and takeoff are hindered by bad weather conditions and fog,” SriLankan said.
However, special charters may be possible on days when the weather is good, the airline added.
SriLankan Airlines’ domestic air service, the air taxi operates scheduled flights to Polgolla in Kandy, Bentota, Koggala and Dikwella down south, from its base in Peliyagoda, Colombo.
The air taxi plans to expand its domestic network to Arugam Bay in the near future.
