Australian jersey bulls are being used to improve the Sri Lankan dairy industry, reports ABC Rural.com
Eight bulls have been selected to travel first class to Sri Lanka where they will start an artificial insemination program.
Tasmanian jersey breeder, Geoff Heazlewood, is sending a young bull and says the interest in him was a pleasant surprise. “They’re going to fly them in a passenger jet in first class, in the front,” he says.
“They’re taking the bulls over for a start, and then hopefully if everything settles down there, they’re going to import two to two-and-a-half thousand dairy heifers into Sri Lanka to improve the local dairy industry.”
