Access Engineering PLC, the leading value engineering solutions provider in Sri Lanka, secured a piling project of Rs. 3.1 billion from Taisei Corporation, the main contractor for the Northern Section–I of the Outer Circular Highway (OCH) Project.
Taisei Corporation is a renowned construction company in Japan that has an overseas presence in over 30 countries. The company offers various cutting-edge construction technology, design and implementation through advanced research and development in the field of infrastructure development.
Taisei was involved in many successful projects in Sri Lanka which includes the Southern Transport Development Project (Southern Expressway) and the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The piling work entrusted to Access Engineering PLC in the OCH project is the single largest piling project undertaken by a Sri Lankan construction company. The scope of this subcontract includes the construction and testing of 1801 cast-in-situ bored piles that are 1,500 millimetres in diameter for the Northern Section–I of the OCH Project. The piling work is scheduled to begin in July 2012 and is to be completed within a period of one year.
The 29 kilometre outer circular road network will link the Colombo-Matara Expressway with the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway that is currently under construction and the proposed Colombo-Kandy Expressway. This network of roads is planned to provide an orbital beltway to bypass the city of Colombo and effectively reduce traffic congestion.
With Access Engineering being awarded the piling project by Taisei Corporation, the company yet again proves that it continues to be a preferred partner for many international construction companies operating in Sri Lanka.
