The Mahanayake Theros of the Malwatu, Asgiriya, Ramanna and Amarapura Nikayas yesterday issued a strongly worded joint statement calling on the President, Prime Minister and all in Parliament to work together at this crucial time in the county’s history or face censure by the Sanga.
The joint statement was addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, and all political party leaders in Parliament.
The Mahanayakes said they had written on 4 April to the President to ensure immediate relief to the people but this was ignored and said appointing a new Cabinet of Ministers will not solve the problems people are facing.
They also express their condolences over the death of a protestor in Rambukkana and said there should be no use of force against any of the peace protestors.
The Mahanayake Theros who make up the main Buddhist Sects in the country warned they would issue a Sanga Order if all parties fail to address the urgent needs of the public.
