WindForce Group has been awarded the Government contract to set up a 10 MW wind power plant in Mannar and supply electricity via the area grid substation.
The awarding to WindForce subsidiary Hiruras Power Ltd. for 20 years is based on international competitive bids received.
The move is part of the Government’s plans to add 60 MW wind power capacity to five grid substations at Trincomalee, Mannar, Madampe, Bolawatta and Kappalthurai.
WindForce intends to commence construction towards the end of 2021 and complete the project by end 2022.
This and another 5MW plant will increase the installed capacity of WindForce’s wind energy portfolio to 84.2MW. WindForce is the country’s biggest producer of renewable energy.
