US Ambassador Julie Chung yesterday called on the newly elected President Ranil Wickremesinghe and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Following the meeting at the re-opened Presidential Secretariat, Chung tweeted that Wickremesinghe “takes office at a time when Sri Lanka stands at a crossroads”.
“We discussed how it arrived at this point of economic and political crisis, and how we can work together to navigate toward a brighter future for all,” Chung said.
“Our countries and our people have been friends and partners for more than 70 years, relationships that will flourish in a Sri Lanka that embraces good governance, respects human rights, and listens to the aspirations of its people,” the US Ambassador added.
Separately the President’s Media said during the meeting, it was discussed advancing the existing relations between Sri Lanka and the United States through a strong approach and the Ambassador assured that she would provide support for the future initiatives of the new Government.
