Ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MPs Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayatilleke were arrested yesterday by the Criminal Investigations Department over violent incidents which took place at Galle Face and outside Temple Trees on 9 May.
This was after the Attorney General on Monday directed the Inspector General of Police and the Senior DIG in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest and produce in court 22 people, and others including ex-Ministers and MPs who are linked to the attack on the MynaGogama and GotaGoGama peaceful protest sites on Monday 9 May. In a related development, the CID yesterday grilled Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Thennakoon in connection with violence as well.
