Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S Samaratunga yesterday confirmed that the Treasury had released sufficient funds to the Disaster Management Ministry to provide immediate relief to the flood victims. He said all Divisional Secretariats had been provided with Rs. 1 million at present to provide necessary relief to the flood victims.
“Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has given instructions to provide sufficient funds for the districts affected by the floods,” he told journalists in Colombo yesterday.
Dr. Samaratunga said if further funds were needed, the Treasury was capable of releasing more from its coffers as the Minister had already given directions to the Budget Department Director General.
“There is no problem in releasing adequate funds to the flood victims,” he stressed.He assured that the Disaster Management Ministry had informed the Treasury that they had received sufficient funds.
