Tourist arrivals in April have increased by 12.6% to 180,429, bringing the first four months tally to 888,353, reflecting a 16% growth from the comparable period of last year.
India continued to be the largest source market in April with 29,860 arrivals, up by 13.4%. The UK came in second with 26,063 arrivals, up by 46%.
Arrivals from China were the third largest at 17,462 but the figure is down by 12% compared to a year earlier. Other major markets included Australia (up 107% to 14,023), Germany (10,803, down by 9%), and the US (up 102% to 8,679). France was down 5% to 7,411.
Asia and Pacific was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 46% of the total received in April 2018. Europe accounted for 42%, Americas 9%, Middle East 2% and Africa 1%.
