Three new Trials-at-Bar to hear high profile cases

Judges were named to three Trials-at-Bar, appointed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya to hear three high profile cases yesterday, namely: the Rathupaswala police shooting incident; the Ekneligoda abduction and disappearance case; and the Avant Garde High Seas arms trafficking case.

The three Trials-at-Bar were appointed on applications made by the Attorney General, the AG’s office said.

High Court judges Menaka Wijesundera (President), Nimal Ranaweera, and Nishantha Hapuarachchi will hear the Rathupaswala case in the Gampaha HC, while the Ekneligoda case will be heard before High Court judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijerathna, and Gihan Kulathunga in Colombo.

The Trial-at-Bar in the Avant Garde High Seas arms trafficking case will be heard before High Court judges Dhammika Ganepola (President), Adithya Patabandige, and Manjula Thilakarathna, also in Colombo.
